My Brother With Epilepsy

I know we don't usually talk about things like this, but epilepsy has been a part of my life since I was born. My older brother has some physical disabilities, including epilepsy, and none of this has stopped him from doing the things he loves, like horseback riding, his love of music, or even video games.

Seizures can be scary, and sometimes dangerous, I've lost count of how many times my brother has bit his lip or gotten an egg on his head. But seizures can also be embarrassing to those who have them. For some people with epilepsy, moments of high stress can trigger a seizure. For others, its flashing lights. Some people can have a seizure without having epilepsy, these can be caused by many different things like extreme dehydration, high or low blood suger, drug withdrawal, or even a high fever. Anything that inturrupts the normal connections between nerve cells in the brain can cause a seizure.

50 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with epilepsy, even more people are undiagnosed, and thats why we should continue the education of epilepsy and provide a more open and outspoken community to talk about these very common medical issues.
